After breakfast, travel to Savannah’s Visitor Center where you will meet your guide for a 2-hour tour of one of the largest restored National Historic Landmark Districts in the nation. You will see 2.2 square miles of the Historic District showing over 270 years of rich history with its restored 18th and 19th century buildings and the waterfront where cotton warehouses are now restaurants, hotels, and shops.
This beautiful city eloquently displays exquisite iron work, ancient cobblestones, splendid mansions, and picturesque cottages. You will see and hear about Factors Walk, Trustees Garden, City Market, and Colonial Cemetery. In the afternoon, visit the Savannah History Museum, housed in the old Central of Georgia Railway passenger shed and dating to the 1850s. The museum is now home to more than 10,000 artifacts including Forestump’s bench, one of Johnny Mercer’s Oscar Awards, and a carriage owned by the family of Girl Scouts founder, Juliette Gordon Lowe. You may also enjoy a film presentation of “Savannah the Survivor” in the theatre.
A stop at Savannah’s River Street District will allow you time to browse the unique shops and enjoy dinner on your own at one of the fine restaurants.
